The latest addition to my driveway is this blue 1968 International Harvester Scout. The odometer shows 63,000 miles and it really has no significant rust.
It arrived from Idaho on a flat bed semi.
It has a 266 V8 with a 4-speed and 4WD, three gas tanks which I figure hold about 34 gallons.
It has some rust but it's all surface except for one spot about the size of a quarter.
It had a rats nest in the spare tire when I took it off that stunk for a couple days.
When I started it for the first time I was disappointed. It would not
really idle at all. It would only start with the choke pulled
completely out. After it warmed up it would 'idle' at about 2000
rpm with the choke pushed half way in. It seemed to have a massive
vacuum leak somewhere.
I fiddled with a few things, vacuum wipers, vacuum advance, but nothing seemed to help so I bought a rebuilt carb, Holley 2300, and installed it.
It now runs like a top.
Lots of mud underneath.
